Hello all and welcome back to Culbreth! It's going to be a great last year in middle school before you head over to high school next year!
If I haven't had a chance to meet you yet, my name is Mrs. McGee and I'll be your counselor this school year. Here are some of the things you can expect from me this school year:
1. "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite. :)" It makes me feel good and I know it helps others feel good, too. So if you see me smiling at you :D , I'd love to see one in return ;-).
2. I'll continue providing confidential individual counseling, mostly by student referral. Sometimes parents ask me to meet with you about an issue or a teacher refers you for counseling because they are concerned. But for the most part, most students access counseling on their own.
3. Group counseling will be provided for self-esteem support during the 2nd 9 weeks of school. If this is an area you struggle with, as most middle school students do, be sure to sign-up. It's helpful for students to hear from others how they struggle, too, and it's a great resource of support to help them through.
4. Classroom counseling lessons will take place throughout the school year via your core classes. Expect to hear more about these topics: Decision Making with Social Media, Discovering Your Interests and Possible Career, High School 101, and High School Registration. I try to mix it up with a variety of formats, such as some lecture, group discussion, individual work and use of technology to keep you on your toes.
5. Last and most fun, I will pull you for about 5-7 minutes during PA throughout 1st semester to talk with you face-to-face about some goals for this school year and how I can support you. Don't freak out if you see me coming for you! You're not in trouble with me........even if you have a guilty conscience about something. ;-)
Let's continue the great start to this school year!
